Beaufort National Boatbuilding Challenge

Beaufort National Boatbuilding Challenge

If you think traditional boat building has its challenges, you don’t have to look any further than the 12th Annual Beaufort Boatbuilding Challenge. It’s an afternoon of fun and competition as the event showcases the art, skill and speed of traditional boat builders. Eighteen teams of two will get a set of boat plans, a stack of wood and four hours of time to construct a skiff. Building a boat in four hours has its challenges. Just because a boat gets constructed first doesn’t mean it’s a winner. Teams must prove their vessels are seaworthy when their completed boats are then raced in the waters of Taylor’s Creek. Crowds gather along Beaufort’s boardwalk to see the real results of the boat building challenge when the teams compete in the rowing contest. This event takes place on the Beaufort waterfront along with the Annual Wooden Boat Show. Free admission.

Locals Recommend

“Families enjoy the boat races on Taylor’s Creek as teams will row against each other to see if these newly constructed boats are in fact seaworthy.”
