Cape Lookout National Seashore named “Best National Park Beach” by USA Today
The Cape Lookout National Seashore is well known for its isolated beaches and great shells, and the Cape Lookout Lighthouse is a just stroll away from the local ocean-facing shoreline.
What better way to enjoy the scenic landscape of Cape Lookout than by renting a new Kubota UTVs? From the lighthouse, take a ride out to the point at Cape Lookout for great fishing and some of the best shelling in the area. Along the way, be sure to keep your eyes open for birds and other wildlife. You may also take a step back in time as you travel through the historic Cape Lookout Village and by the old lifesaving station and several old cottages.
These Utility Terrain Vehicle are fun for the whole family and allow you to see more of the island. The 4x4s can carry up to four passengers and are a fun way to explore Cape Lookout. Half-day and full-day UTV rentals are available.
Cape Lookout National Seashore protects a 56-mile stretch of barrier islands on the North Carolina coast. These undeveloped beaches provide vital nesting grounds for sea turtles and shorebirds and a herd of wild horses roam free on Shackleford Banks. The Cape Lookout lighthouse and two historic villages offer a glimpse into the lives of people who made their living on the edge of the sea.
Once at Cape Lookout you are free to explore, enjoy, and relax for two to two and a half hours before departing Cape Lookout to return to Beaufort. Prepare for a fun adventure! Take in all the gorgeous sights of the seashore, including wildlife sightings of dolphins, wild horses, local bird species, and more. Go for a swim or just explore the shore, looking for seashells as you walk along the water.
Island Express Ferry Service is only ferry authorized to drop off at the lighthouse!
Cape Lookout Lighthouse is currently closed. Major renovation are scheduled to begin in the fall/winter of 2021. The National Park Service expects the renovation to take two years to complete.

- Renters must be 25 years or older with a valid driver’s license to rent and drive a UTV.
- Only 4 people are allowed to ride in a UTV, regardless of age.
- Helmets are available as an option for passengers.
